Letter From the Director

Dear Austin Children’s Choir Family,

Welcome to the 35th Season for The Austin Children’s Choir! Our theme for this season is “All The World’s A Stage,” where music can be made by anyone, anywhere, and under any circumstances.

This year we will begin our season completely online and we will continue to provide great musical opportunities to the children of Austin and surrounding areas. This season will feature scheduled group meetings and learn-at-your-own-time video lessons from all four of our Artistic Staff members. We will continue to teach music literacy, music appreciation, and vocal production, all with amazing musical selections from major works, Broadway, and Disney.

The Austin Children’s Choir has proudly served the greater Austin community for the past thirty-four years by providing exceptional musical opportunities and music education for hundreds of children. as well as by touching the lives of the multitude of people who have seen us perform throughout the years, all around the City of Austin – from our home in St. Matthews to the State Capitol; from festival stages on Sixth Street to the main stage of The Long Center.

Many of our choir alumni have gone on to study music education and performance after graduating high school and our growing membership often perform with their own school bands, choirs, and orchestras. Our program is designed to support and expand upon the music education opportunities provided in schools, as well as provide a new outlet for musical expression for students who have not yet experienced performing with a choir. I am proud and humbled to serve The Austin Children’s Choir for my seventh year and look forward to continuing to help mold the musical learning of our children.

We are facing extraordinary times this year for the music education community throughout the world and The Austin Children’s Choir is ready to explore the opportunities that lie ahead. Though we never imagined having to transfer our classes to a digital platform, it is what is best for the health and safety of our kids, families, instructors, and community. During the original quarantine in March, educators leapt into action to transfer their classrooms to a variety of online platforms and over the past few months, teachers have worked tirelessly to enhance the online experience for students in all subjects. We, at The Austin Children’s Choir believe that “All the World’s a Stage” and nothing will stop our ability to serve the children of Austin, even in these trying times. The mission of The Austin Children’s Choir is, and has always been, to support the great city of Austin, to work with passionate children, and uplift the world through music. We hope that you will join us for another great season of choral music this year as we celebrate our 35th Season!
