The Austin Children’s Choir Internship Program provides opportunities for Music Education students at Texas State University to work with children in a choral setting prior to their Student Teaching Internship at the conclusion of their degree. This will help prepare the interns for a career in music and give the choir a chance to work with a variety of conductors.
Rachel Reed is a junior studying Music Education with Ron Ulen at Texas State University. Originally from Rowlett, TX, she was inspired by her high school director to enlighten students with the knowledge of what music can do for each individual. She is excited to begin her second year with the Austin Children’s Choir and begin sharing music with all of the wonderful kids.
Christian Clow is a sophomore attending Texas State University where he is pursuing a degree in Music Education. He plans on one day becoming a choir director, hoping to advance music in America and to grow a lasting community of musical students. Christian is honored to have been given the chance to work with the Austin Children’s Choir and is excited to see what can be learned in the coming year.
Elizabeth Lester, from Flower Mound, Texas, was born in January of 1997, and has been singing since she was able to speak. Music has played a huge role in her life, as she was involved in dance, band, and choir throughout childhood. Elizabeth is currently pursuing a degree in music studies from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, with the intention of working as an elementary music teacher. Elizabeth has worked in classrooms, both in Sunday schools and as an aide during the Summer Day Camp for Lewisville Independent School District. She is so excited to step out of the traditional classroom and in front of the Austin Children’s Choir risers! In her free-time Elizabeth loves arts and crafts, and getting involved in the community through Sigma Alpha Iota. She can not wait to meet the young musicians of the 2017-2018 Austin Children’s Choir, and looks forward to an incredible year together!
Nathan Thompson is a Sophomore attending Texas State University as an Undergraduate Music Studies Major. While in high school, Nathan fell in love with singing in choir and was inspired by his high school choir director to pursue a career in teaching music. At Texas State Nathan is an active member and the historian of the professional music fraternity, Mu Phi Epsilon. In addition, he also serves as the secretary of the Texas State Chapter of the American Choral Director’s Association. Nathan is excited to be one of the interns for the 2017-2018 Austin Children’s Choir and to have the opportunity to share his passion for music with others.
Sara Trogdon is a sophomore at Texas State University pursuing a degree in Music Education. Sara is a member of the professional music fraternity, Mu Phi Epsilon, and is currently the social and banquet chair for the chapter. Sara is passionate about teaching music and inspiring the joy of music in others. She looks forward to working with the Austin Children’s Choir this year and is excited to see what this year brings!
Anarra Whitcher is a Sophomore studying music education at Texas State University. From a very young age, she knew that she wanted to teach, and to work with those who share her love for music. She is so excited to begin her first year working with Austin Children’s Choir.
